In the past, he had received threats many a times and at every occasion he had got police cover. Now the actor's police security has been removed after reviewing the scenario by authorities. They have concluded by saying that he does not face any threat anymore.
Even 10 days back the actor was provided security by eight constables, of the Protection and Security Branch of Mumbai Police, who guarded him in two shifts.
The actor was provided protection by the police in the year 2008, when the 'Indian Mujahideen' threatened to attack him. They had emailed the news channels mentioning his name and that of three more celebrities. Some industrialists' names were also mentioned in the 'hit list'. In 2010 again Intelligence reports informed that the actor had received fresh threats. Due to this the protection continued to be maintained but the total number of policemen was lessened to half.
Last year, Pratap Dighavkar who is the Deputy Police Commissioner, presented a report to Arup Patnaik who was then the police chief. He notified that the actor and Aryan, his son, was receiving threats from "Lashkar-e-Taiba".
However, months later the 'Protection and Security Branch' carried out a review after which it has been decided that the police cover will be withdrawn. This decision has been taken after considering the fact that at the moment the actor is not under any threat.
An officer from the department said that the incident that took place at the Wankhede Stadium and also Shah Rukh's scuffle with Shirish Kunder at Sanjay Dutt's party have also been taken into consideration. He was quoted as saying, "A person's behavior is also taken into account while reviewing his security."
Madhukar Pandery who is the Additional Commissioner (P&S branch) said, "At present, the actor does not face any threats. If threats arise, we will reconsider."
In the year 2010, police protection was provided to fifty-four celebrities that included filmmaker Karan Johar, Vivek Oberoi, Pritish Nandy, Himesh Reshammiya and Firoz Nadiadwala among others.
Though this news on the surface seems as if Shah Rukh has been slighted, however, it is good to hear that the actor is safe now.
