Bachchan's Family Donated 25 Lakhs to a Girl

On Amitabh Bachchan's 70's birthday last year in October, his wife Jaya Bachchan has launched a book of painting with a note written for each painting about Amitabh's different roles and his contribution to the Indian Cinema. The book is a combined creation of 70 renowned painters. To support girl child cause, the Bachchan family has decided to donate the profit they make from the sale of the book to an NGO that works for the well-being of girl child.

Big B, who is also a UN ambassador for the girl child, said, "The idea was conceptualised by Jaya and we have decided to donate the profit we make from the sale of the book. We have donated 25 lakh so far and will continue doing so."

Jaya added, "We are willing to donate to any other legitimate organisation helping children, especially the girl child."

Amitabh Bachchan also shares his birthday with International Day of the Girl Child, the organization which he supports.

In a book titled B Seventy which was unveiled on Big B's 70th birthday, is an compilation of 70 prominent artists from all over India showcased their work on what they feel about the iconic actor.

While handing away the proceeds from the sale of the book to Plan India for the empowerment of the girl child, Amitabh said, "The whole Bachchan family firmly stands behind the cause. We in our own small way are donating an amount of Rs25 lakh from the profits that my book generated."

Jaya Bachchan, who masterminded the noble cause, said all future proceeds from the book will be given to the charitable organisation.

Accepting the amount, Bhagyashri Dengle, executive director of Plan India, pointed out female foeticide ratio in the world and in India and she emphasized that the joint commitment of the Bachchan family will go a long way in changing the mindset of the common people.
