"Dabangg 2" v/s "Ek Tha Tiger" in box-office

Luck struck Salman Khan when he did "Wanted" that released in 2009, and is smiling on him since then, as we advance into 2013. Fortune is being showered on him so much so that he is his only competitor as nobody else is even close to him.

This rise of Salman Khan has been unmatched by any of the other Khans leave alone the other actors. As, "Dabangg 2" releases today globally, the industry insiders are betting whether "Dabangg 2" will be able to break the records of Salman's previous Eid release of this year, "Ek Tha Tiger". The latter has grossed 186 crores at the box-office- an amount that has not been collected by any other film.

NR Pachisia who is producer-distributor said, "Ek Tha Tiger is so far 2012's biggest earner. So, frankly, Dabangg 2 is only competing with Tiger.''

Arbaaz Khan who turned director with "Dabangg 2" said, "Only Salman can break the record of another Salman film. He has an image and a following that is so huge, it's hard for another hero, in this current scenario, to take him on."

Arbaaz also said that just the way Munna Bhai has been a cult character that people have not got enough of, Chulbul Pandey too has a huge fan following and people want to see more of him.

He asked with conviction, "Have you ever heard of a flop film having a sequel?", thus reinstating the need of a "Dabangg 2".

Arbaaz also vehemently said that none other than Salman Khan could have played Chulbul Pandey. Salman seemed more modest about it and said, "Chulbul is a larger-than-life character, a hero. Any of the other Khans could have been in my shoes."

Salman also added, "When Aamir Khan did Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak, Shah Rukh Khan did Deewana and when I did Maine Pyar Kiya, we were nobodies. Yet we pulled off these films. And 20 years later, we are still here, working harder than ever before. If a lead character is well-written and a film is good, then that is half the battle won anyway. Yaar, I certainly don't think I'm head and shoulders above anyone."

Salman Khan also said that he is unperturbed by box-office results. He said, "The audience decides how big a hit each film is going to be. I just ensure that I continue to do 'hero' characters, because I know everyone goes into the theatre to see a winner. No one roots for a loser."
